Our Mission

Novelect is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on the belief that real environmental change starts locally and with students. We empower young people to identify the environmental challenges in their own communities and transform their ideas into impact. Through mentorship, funding, and national support, Novelect helps students design, launch, and sustain projects that make their cities cleaner, greener, and more resilient. Together, we’re building a network of youth-led action across the nation.

FAQs

What is Novelect?

Novelect is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers students to create real, measurable environmental change in their own communities. We provide mentorship, seed funding, and resources to help student-led teams design and launch local sustainability projects.

Who can participate?

Students from all backgrounds can apply to start or join a Novelect-affiliated project. We welcome both individuals and school-based teams who are passionate about solving environmental challenges in their communities.

What support do teams receive?

Each accepted team receives direct mentorship from experienced environmental leaders, startup funding as needed, and access to essential materials and tools. Our mentors help teams refine their project design, track progress, and connect with community partners.

How did Novelect get started?

Novelect began in December 2023 with a simple idea: help Phoenix residents harvest rainwater during Arizona’s monsoon season. That first project of installing rain barrels to curb water usage inspired students across the U.S. to start their own local environmental solutions. Today, Novelect supports projects in five states.

Where does Novelect operate?

Novelect currently operates projects across five U.S. states — Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, and Washington — with more chapters launching each year. Apply to start a Novelect chapter near you.

What projects are funded?

We fund student-led projects that address environmental issues such as drought, pollution, biodiversity loss, or urban heat. Each project is locally tailored, from rainwater collection in Phoenix to pollinator gardens in Philadelphia.

Can students outside these states join?

Yes! Students from other regions can still apply to launch new Novelect programs. We help teams design locally relevant pilot projects and connect them with mentors and community partners to get started.

How can schools or organizations partner with Novelect?

We collaborate with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to expand student environmental engagement. Partners can host workshops, provide local support, or co-sponsor new projects. Reach out through our “Collaborate” form to start a conversation.

How can I volunteer or support Novelect?

You can volunteer with an existing local project, help mentor new student teams, or donate to fund new initiatives. Every contribution helps empower the next generation of changemakers.
